The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.4 Release Candidate 1. The first release candidate of the 3.4 version brings a few bug fixes and improvements over the previous version. The most notable addition is the possibility to easily import an extension from any repository into XWiki Repository. In September 2009 the XWiki.org project ran a survey asking users what features they'd like to see developed in the XWiki project.

2.5 years after, here's the result of what's been implemented and what's still outstanding. Since we're going to start defining the themes for the XWiki Enterprise 4.x cycle (which lasts 1 year), it's a good time to reflect on the results achieved so far compared to the community feedback from 2009. 

The idea is to start a new survey real soon to gather feedback again about what you'd like to see in the XWiki Enterprise 4.x cycle.

So without further ado here are the results... …

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.4 Milestone 1. This is the first and only milestone of the XWiki Enterprise 3.4 version. We're getting closer to the end of the 3.x cycle and the goal of this release (and the following one, which will be the last of the cycle) is to improve the current features. The highlights of this release are:

• New default color theme
• XWiki 2.1 is the default page syntax
• Delete space menu
• Simple space templates
• Special characters in attachment name
• Minimized action menu
• Display macro
• Improved Extension Manager UI

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.3. Following the goals established for the 3.x cycle, XWiki Enterprise 3.3 delivers the first usable but experimental versions of App Within Minutes and Extension Manager features. The highlights of this release are:

• Experimental "App Within Minutes" feature
• Improved Extension Manager
• Automatic external link checker
• Better support for exporting CJK documents as PDF
• LDAP user membership improvements
• Attachment handling improvements
• Debian packages for installing XWiki

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.3 Milestone 2. Second milestone of the XWiki Enterprise 3.3 version. The highlights of this release are:

• a new user interface for the extension manager
• work continued for the Application Within Minutes features: improved Class Editor and introduction of a livetable generator
• a new and improved FAQ application has been committed in the platform, although it's not bundled by default in XE
• support for exporting PDF documents for CJK languages
• a link checker application to check the status of all external links in your wiki

And on the developers' front:

• support for dependency Providers, as defined in JSR330
• a Disposable interface for singleton components which can be used to release resources when a component is being unregistered

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.3 Milestone 1. First milestone of the XWiki Enterprise 3.3 version. Since we're getting closer to the end of the 3.x cycle, there are fewer new features in this release, most of the changes being internal. The highlights of this release are:

• a preview version of the new class editor to be used in the Application Within Minutes designer
• new Debian packages for XWiki
• a few extension manager improvements
• LDAP improvements
• improvements on uploading and downloading attachments, especially when filesystem storage is enabled

And on the developers' front:

• script services for Application Manager and Wiki Manager
• cache improvements
• changes in the way XAR modules are packaged
• and the usual dependency upgrades and translation improvements

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Commons, XWiki Rendering, XWiki Platform, XWiki Enterprise and XWiki Enterprise Manager 3.2. Following the goals established for the 3.x cycle, XWiki Enterprise 3.2 pushes forward in the directions of the Application Within Minutes and Extension Manager features. The highlights of this release are: 

• many extension manager improvements
• new implementation of the sheet system making it easier to bind sheets to objects without an explicit inclusion of the sheet in the document content
• user dashboards giving each user the possibility to configure their own home page
• introduction of wiki workspaces, as a more collaborative way of managing an XWiki virtual farm
• improvements of search results scoring
• storage improvements, bringing in numerous performance and compatibility improvements
• conversion of the panels application to the XWiki 2.0+ syntax
• easier activation and configuration of Google Analytics

And on the developers' front:

• CSRF prevention enabled by default
• support for DocBook syntax
• xwiki-commons and xwiki-rendering are now published on the central Maven2 repository
• some major code cleanup due to the retirement of some very old plugins and the move of legacy/deprecated code into separate modules

We've setup a Jira dashboard to present the work done for the whole 3.2 release. In summary, 338 issues have been closed by 12 committers (and other contributors providing patches), out of which 149 are fixed bugs.

The XWiki development team is proud to announce the availability of XWiki Enterprise 3.2 Milestone 3, the last milestone of the XWiki Enterprise 3.2 version. Main new features include improved Lucene scoring, new implementation of the sheet system which is more flexible and easier to use, support for OpenOffice 3.3 as the backend of the office importer, better support for IE9 in the WYSIWYG editor, and many improvements in the extension manager and the extension repository.

• support for user-defined, personal dashboards,
• improvements to the spotlight-like search suggestions,
• improvements to the extension manager,
• support for arbitrary named parameters in the event stream, 
• ... and a few dependency upgrades and bug fixes
