General Information

Usage

The University of Lorraine uses XWiki as a collaborative intranet and knowledge base platform for staff, faculty, and students. It supports over 145,000 pages and 17,000 users, with features like SSO authentication (CAS), granular access controls, API support, and collaborative editing via OnlyOffice. The system also includes custom tools like a URL shortener and a location-based search macro to improve navigation and usability. It serves as both an internal documentation hub and a platform for structured collaboration across departments.

Description

Faced with rising costs from Atlassian’s Confluence and needing a tool that could meet strict data continuity and user accessibility requirements, the University of Lorraine selected XWiki after a thorough evaluation. The migration included pages, spaces, and users, maintaining all structure, content, and permissions. In addition to a smooth data transfer, XWiki provided custom development, SSO integration, branding customization, and user training. Ongoing collaboration is supported through GitLab for issue tracking and transparent communication, ensuring the platform continues to evolve with the university's needs.
